Our standard pedestrian garden bridges and foot bridges are built with 2 x 8’s or 2 x 10’s for the stringers and 2 x 6’s for the floor planks. The standard 6 ft footbridges can hold up to 450 lbs.
As the lengths get longer the weight is distributed over the span of the bridge so the weight load capacity of the bridge will increase across the bridge so the standard 10 ft bridges will hold up to 600 lbs.
When we get into the heavy duty bridges, we add more stringers underneath the bridge and cross supports and bracing so that the 20ft tractor bridges hold up to 2,000 lbs. They are built to hold up to about 6,000 lbs, if needed, and up to 50 ft long.
I can build bridges up to 60 feet long with various styles of railings, post caps and solar lights. Call us at one of the numbers at the top of the page or e-mail Rod for a price quote on any of our bridges.
“Rod, You may not remember me, but you made a 12 ft by 4ft bridge for a memorial garden in Virginia that the family is creating in memory of my sister who passed away in December 2012. Your bridge holds at least 600 lbs. without sagging. The picture expresses our appreciation for the fine work you do. Again, many thanks!”
